You can raise your Iron max by upgrading your Iron Storage.

Please note that if your Iron Storages are full, it is not possible to purchase more Iron. If your Iron maximum is not enough to upgrade a building, you will need to upgrade the Iron Storages first. If possible, you could also build another Iron Storage if you have the ability to in your Base.
